Mahora Te Aroha: Community Garden

The shared communal garden, Rākau Taumatua (Tree’s where birds gather, a place where people flock), is centred around a tī kouka (cabbage tree) with a representation of a Ruru (native owl) resting above.

This peaceful space nurtures both plants and people, serving as our community's heart for connection and reflection. The watchful Ruru sculpture on the right hand side of the tī kouka - a gift by long-serving Chief Executive Alison Cadman - stands as guardian of this special place where neighbors become friends and community bonds flourish. The Ruru’s wise eyes watch over this micro sanctuary of gathering and growth.

Residents have added trees and food to this native garden making it a truly shared space which will nourish the community.
