October 2016 - Farewell letter from Celia
Kia ora koutou Dwell
I’ve enjoyed being on Council and have served the city for 20 years. In that time I’ve met many wonderful people and so much has happened.
Council’s strategic vision is to grow and promote Wellington as an inclusive, diverse, smart capital where talent wants to live; set in a flourishing natural environment. We have been delivering on this vision.
Wellington has hosted popular events such as Cuba Dupa and World of WearableArt®, taken action with Low Carbon and Resilience plans, strengthened international relationships with existing sister cities and taken steps towards becoming a greener, cycle-friendly city.
We’re committed to the long-term provision of quality social housing in the city. We need far more affordable housing in Wellington and I look forward to the new Council implementing our Urban Development agency.
The Special Housing areas agreed by my council and central government catalysed over 20 developments included several housing New Zealand rebuilds. Most recently, we’ve just finished consulting with the Newlands community on increasing housing choice around the Newlands Town Centre.
I’d like to thank Dwell for their support, in particular thanks to Alison Cadman for being part of the Resilience Steering group.
In the upcoming election, make sure that you vote – Council makes a huge difference!
Mayor of Wellington
